Confusing: Your question is confusing-- if you switches from a progressive to a single distance lens you would not have a reading power and near objects may be blurred. More lokely is that you have recdieved a progressive lens with more reading power,restricting your side to side vision. A teardrop shape bottom is important to capture all the reading power.Brands do make a difference. I like Zeiss/varilux
