A member asked:

Is xanax (alprazolam) xr 1 mg good for helping me sleep?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

That depends.: I am assuming it was prescribed for you, and the person to ask is the prescribing physician/clinician. Alprazolam is rapidly absorbed and can help sleep, but is relatively short acting (3-4 hours) and can result in 'rebound' where people awaken after the drug wears off. If you are not used to benzos, 1 mg of Xanax (alprazolam) is a high dose - starting doses are 0.25- 0.5 mg. If not prescribed, don't take it
