A member asked:

Dear drs, take my temp. several times with digital thermom. axillar temp. 95.4f,oral temp 97.9f.i know axilar is lower and not accurate but why so low?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Temp difference: The axillary temperature is very inaccurate. It is at least one degree less than the oral temperature. However, both are affected by multiple things, such as recently drinking hot/cold liquids, smoking, relative temperature of skin. Also, some thermometers are not designed to take axillary and oral temperatures.
