A member asked:

How long is a fellowship for neurosurgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Years: Neurosurgery training involves 4 yrs of college, 4 years of med school, 1 year of general surgery internship, & 6-7 years of residency. At that point you are able to practice as a neurosurgeon, pending board certification (within 5 yrs). Fellowship is extra training in a specific area and is optional, usually 1-3 years depending on the area studied. Most do not do a fellowship.
