Varies: Neurosurgery residency lasts 6-8 years after completion of Medical School. Salary depends on the PGY year of experience, and varies somewhat between programs. Living expenses vary in different locations and this is one of the reasons. The range in 2014-2015 is roughly between a low of $47,000 for a first year resident at some programs and about $63,000 for a seventh year resident at another.
