A member asked:

What are possible reasons why my doctor wants to use pitocin (oxytocin) and not strip membranes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Discuss with doctor: This question would be best answered by your doctor who knows your history well. Stripping membranes is not a form of induction and only works to start labor in someone who is ready, at best 50% of the time, sometimes less. In addition, if someone is GBS positive, it is not recommended to strip their membranes due to an increased risk of pushing GBS into amniotic sac and putting baby in danger
