A member asked:

Can hypothyroidism cause high calcium in blood or its just hyperthyroid? can any docs explain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Hi. High blood calcium is not a manifestation of hypo- or hyperthyroidism. Don't confuse the thyroid gland with the parathyroid glands...no relation other than anatomical proximity. The parathyroids run the blood calcium show, and parathyroid tumor(s) is/are the leading cause of high blood calcium. If you have high blood calcium, see an endocrinologist. All the best to you!
