A member asked:

Can hydranencephaly be carried by a parent and passed onto another?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing question: Hydranencephaly is a fatal defect and no patient will ever live to parent another. The defect is considered sporadic, with faint genetic links. The recurrence risk for one couple to have a second is less than 2%, and would include any related form (spina bifida cystica, meningocele, etc)
