A member asked:

I cant take bactrin or cypro. in your opinion, amoxicillin or doxycycline work better for mild uti? i want to know what to discuss with my dr.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Urine culture: Allergy to Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Bactrim narrows the choices for effective UTI therapy, and a culture and sensitivity is the best way to determine what drug is likely to work best. Some bacteria causing UTI are resistant to amoxicillin, and Doxycycline is not usually the best choice for a bladder infection. Macrodantin might be worth a try.
