A member asked:

What is an irritable uterus and how its contractions are different from braxton hicks contractions? can either efface or dilate my cervix? i'm 33w5d.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Same contractions: Braxton Hicks contractions indicate the level of sensitivity(irritability) of the uterus to the agent(oxytocin) that can cause labor. The difference is the frequency, intervals, and duration of the contractions that will eventually be progressive enough to produce changes in the cervix-AKA active labor.
