See DR.: Falls from 10 feet on an outstretched arm may often cause fractures, even small ones. With pain and swelling it would benefit you to get the hand looked at and examined and possibly get an x-ray. Best wishes.

X-Ray: X-Ray for scaphoid fracture, splint, ice first 48 hrs, elevate...switch to warm soaks...ibuprofen...don't wait, could be serious !!
