A member asked:

Apart from the obvious location what is the difference between cervical facet injections and esi? e.g what risks apply and which one is less dangerous

Location: Facet injections place anti-inflammatory steroid into the joint(s) in the spine and the epidural steroid injection places steroid around the spinal cord, nerves and discs. Joint injection is very localized and usually requires more than one. ESI can have greater spread. Since the epidural space is just outside of the spinal cord, this is more risky. Either injection should be done under XRAY.
