It depends.: Hypomania is a state where there is abnormally elevated or expansive mood with increased activity and irritability sometimes causing hyperthermia. This state may precede a manic phase in which case, the hyperactivity is heightened causing disruption of sleep, ability to think and behave appropriately. This affects one's ability to function socially and occupationally.
