Viruses mostly: The uterus, or womb, has a body with a lining to accept a fertilized egg to develop in pregnancy, and a "neck" or cervix that dangles into the vagina. It stretches and dilates and flattens at time of birth, but it is exposed to everything inserted into the vagina. The cervix surface can deal with infections and viruses, but most cervix cancer is caused by human pailoma virus. Gardisil can prevent.

Cervical cancer: Ca of the cervix is cancer that starts in that donut shaped bottom of the "womb". The uterus sits on top of it and when we talk about the dilation at the time of delivery...That's the cervix that has to dilate to allow the baby to pass out of the uterus. When you have a pap smear this is checking the cervix for abnormal cells.

The cervix is: Part of the uterus (womb) that exits the abdomina cavity into the upper vagina. It is exposed to the world of things that you allow to enter you vagina, and all of the exposures it has. Current belief is that most cacx is caused by 2 strans of a virus, hpv. A new vaccine can prevent acquisition and cancer.
