Wrong question: What is the cause of the cold sores? If the cold sores are from Herpes Simplex infection, you should reconsider having oral sex because you could infect your partner with the virus. You should have the cold sores tested for the herpes virus the next time you get them. Note, that even though you don't have a full out break, you may still be contagious.
