Lots of reasons: For one thing, in many parts of the US (as well as the rest of the world) Methadone programs are sharply limited in how big they can be, and where they can operate, and there are LONG waiting lists for spots. Secondly, many people and esp. those with prescription drug problems, are not comfortable being in programs together with IV heroin users, and prefer a doctors office. More treatments=better.

METHADONE: SUBOXONE IS BETTER THAN METHADONE AS IT IS SAFER. METHDAONE ALTHOUGH VERY CHEAP HAS BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH CARDIAC RISK AND DEATH WHICH IS DOSE INDEPENDENT.
