If you have clot: This is a reason for a stroke or transient ischemic attack. Acutely, TPA (alteplase) may dissolve clot and there are surgical tools to open closed blood vessels and keep open via stent, but you cannot on your own do these treatments. Prevention using anticoagulants or platelet inhibitors is best approach in general. And dealing with risk factors even better.
