Three: Mesothelioma is classified by the type of cell involved. There are generally 3 types recognized: 1.Epitheloid: major cell is an epithelial cell 2. Sarcomatoid: major cell is a primitive cell 3. Biphasic: both cell type This is important because all three act very differently with regard to response to treatment and prognosis.
