It varies: There are ways to spend a small fortune on a baby, and there are ways to be more frugal. Breast feeding is less expensive than formula. Many baby clothes can be traded with friends or found in thrift shops. Car seats should be new (to ensure that it hasn't been in an accident in the past). Cribs may be used- but make sure they meet safety guidelines. Mattresses should be new.
