A member asked:

Can you tell me how lsd works on a molecular or atomic level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Neurotransmitters: like serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine and many others are how our brain communicates with itself, experiences sensations, how we see hear and feel. LSD massively interferes with serotonergic transmission which in turn effects other neurotransmitters and causes hallucinations, and perceptual distortions. Some feel that these are religious/spiritual experiences, others not so much.
