Dr. Bradley Butkovich answered

Specializes in Orthopedic Surgery

Any age if: You are Doogie Howser. Bit typically earliest is in your late 20's and early 30's. Interest in sports medicine is obviously key. Need 4 years of college then 4 years of medical school and either orthopaedic surgery residency (5years) or family practice residency (3years) and then 1 year sports medicine fellowship. Ortho does surgery, family practice takes care of the whole athlete, non-surgical.

Early 30's.: Most begin their practices in their early 30's. A well qualified sports medicine physician should be fellowship trained from an accredited program.

30 and above: Assuming an American trained sports physician they would be at least 12 years past high school to be a fellowship trained sports medicine specialist... So 30 yo or older
