No: Red cells are lysed in the vasculature (intravascular hemolysis, as in joggers, folks with old prosthetic heart valves, bad transfusion reactions, malaria) or the spleen / elsewhere (spherocytosis, others). The released hemoglobin becomes bilirubin at or near the site of hemolysis and is carried to the liver mostly on albumin.
