Continue if possible: There are so many known health benefits of breast feeding, particularly in the first four to six months of life. If at all possible, pumping and storing breast milk is suggested. Your baby can be fed with a bottle containing the breast milk.

Yes, I also would recommend continuing breastfeeding until at least 6 months, but for a variety of reasons, some mother's are not able to continue or go through too much stress trying to do so. Then knowing the proper way of weaning may make the transition easier. The goal is to help the baby thrive without hurting the mother's well being in the process.
