Ergot alkaloids: "Methergine" (methylergotamine) is at acceptable levels 12 hours after the last dose. This is important in nursing mothers so the infant is not affected. The medication is used for post delivery bleeding to increase contractions in the womb, which compresses the placental site from which bleeding emanates.
