Wernicke's aphasia: Wernicke's aphasia patients have severe problems with communication. They even do not undertand their own language. There is really no good way of communication. You may try to communicate more slowly with the help of pictures and let the patient have choices.

You seem to be doing: fine. Are you speaking about someone else with Aphasia? Posterior aphasias are much harder to treat than anterior aphasias. Sometimes some reading and writing skills are preserved. The problem of not recognizing ones ability to get their ideas across often frustrates people. Be patient. With time hopefully the Wernike's will improve to transcortical sensory aphasia and eventually anomic aphasia.
