A member asked:

Can somebody with friedreich's ataxia carry a child & give birth?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes,but: The truly sad thing about this disorder is that it creeps up on otherwise normal people and steals their future. It is also an autosomal dominant disorder that has a 50% risk of passing to any newborn. Many who face the knowledge of this disease would not want to take the risk of passing it to a newborn, only to have that child grow up to the same fate.
