Exercise is good: I can't imagine any Doctor would say such a thing! Where there is a will, there is a way. Exercise will not only help you get back to a healthy weight, but it will significantly improve your mood and and enhance your overall well-being. I would probably just chalk up the 'good luck losing weight ...' to bad advice.

No! Not at all!: Many psych meds do increase risk of weight gain but none make everyone gain weight. The only one you mention, Lamictal, does not seem to cause weight gain & may induce weight loss! Exercise not only helps with weight but improves overall health & helps anxiety and depression. A healthy diet is crucial for weight loss- I like Dr. Fuhrman's- see http://bit.ly/1dHW9hT
