No: excluding tonsillar carcinoma, those lesions of the throat are usually squamous Ca arising in mucosa of the throat and the rare minor salivary tumors that are occasionally seen. Stage 0 or insitu can only be detected by histologic exam where atypia is seen in the cellular pattern. The stage I Ca' may occasionally have slight mucosal ulceration but most often have to be palpated if possible
