See your dentist: Gingivitis is the most common cause of the bleeding and swollen gums. It can be a sign that you already have a gum disease. The bacteria and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless toxic “plaque” on teeth causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed. This is a serious problem, which should be checked by a dentist. The good news is that this condition is curable.

Diagnose & Treat: The most likely cause of red and swollen gums at your age is gingivitis. If this is the problem it requires a thorough professional cleaning at your dentist. This must be followed by daily proper oral hygiene which includes proper tooth brushing and flossing. There are other conditions that may complicate the healing process. Start by seeing your dentist for an evaluation and treatment.
