Depends: If your OB recommends weekly ultrasound then it's probably necessary. Stick to his/her advise. There's a reason for that. Good health.

Small baby: If baby is smaller than average, 3 ounces can be significant at that stage. Would do serial scans to make sure weight not falling off.
