Weight gain: I would stick to the three square meals and healthy snacks. In the first trimester, a woman only needs about 200 extra calories above normal which amounts to about half a chicken breast. Pregnancy is not a time to eat excessively ! A woman starting out at normal weight should gain 25-30 lbs. if underweight, 30-35 lbs and overweight 20-22 lbs.
