Proving doesn't help: While an X-ray or a bone scan might give evidence of an old fracture of the coccyx (tailbone), the information gained by that diagnostic image would not change the treatment or prognosis. Very bothersome tailbone pain may respond to a procedure in which the nerves going to the coccyx (ganglion impars) are blocked by an injection or a heated probe. That is done by anesthesiologists.
