A few things: The answer to your question is complex. There are cases where nothing can be done -- sometimes babies are genetically predisposed to develop allergies at some point in their lives, and there are no concrete things to do. In other cases, some studies support the presence of 2 dogs or 1 cat in the home to prevent pet allergies. Others support limiting use of antibiotics and reflux medications.
