A member asked:

Getting over acute brochitis. got checked by doctor yesterday. today, i've developed a sharp stabbing pain between my ribs on my back when coughing.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Relatively common: Bronchitis causes fair amount of inflammation. If that affects the lining of your pleura or causes inflammation near an area of nerve it can send sharp shooting pains through the nerve distribution. Typically this is short lived but can recur with deep breathing or cough. Generally not considered dangerous. If accompanied by acute shortness of breath, can worry about collapse of lung: go to ER
