Not normal: No,it's not normal, but if it only happened once, you should be ok. If you keep vomiting blood, however, you should get checked. A Mallory-Weiss tear is a tear in the esophagus from recurrent severe vomiting (retching) and may need treatment.

Blood in vomit: Vomiting blood is not normal. Sometimes a small amount of blood in the vomit can be from repeated vomiting which tears some small blood vessels (this is not serious). But anytime there is blood in the vomit you need to be evaluated ASAP by a doctor to make sure it is nothing more serious than this.
