Varicella viremia: Initially, the virus enters the body through the respiratory system, causing inflammation and increased secretions. Then, the virus enters the blood stream, creating fever and stimulating the immune system. The blood also transfers the virus to the skin, where the typical rash develops. Rarely, the virus can affect the nervous system, causing cerebellar ataxia.
