Feigning illness: Named for a fictional teller of tall tales, the Munchausen's patient seeks human warmth by pretending to be sick, sometimes by self-injury. In Munchausen's by proxy, a parent brings in a healthy child and tries to persuade physicains that the child is sick. Despite what you read, the parent is often afraid for the child's safety for some good reason and wants him under out of a situation.
