Beta blockers or....: Alcohol and drinking binges are know to cause atrial fibrillation , which can lead to blood clots in the heart, which can lead to strokes. One simple option may be to cut back on the drinking. More than 7 drinks a week (14 for men) or 4 a day (5 for men), would be risky behavior. Beta blockers are a common cardiac drug which reduces a fib. Also digoxin and amiodarone.

Withdrawal?: If you drink a lot of alcohol then stop, you go through withdrawal and this can make the heart race. Answer is to drink less, and less often. Also, when you drink, eat something, this slows down the absorption. Good luck!
