Diphtheria is very: serious.It can make a person unable to breathe, cause paralysis and heart failure;about one out of every ten people that gets diphtheria dies.It is caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae bacteria.The infection can be spread easily through sneezing and coughing. Diphtheria must be treated immediately with an antitoxin against the diphtheria toxin & an antibiotic.Vaccination is the best prevention!
