YES: It is well known that kidney cancer spreads to bones. In the last few years many new treatments have been introduced for a very uncommon cancer. There are two types of treatments. 1. Immunotherapy ( interferon, interleukin-2), 2. Targeted therapy (sorafenib, sunitinib, temsirulimus, everolimus, bevacizumab, pazopanib, axitinib). Yes there is hope.

There are quite a bit of newer drugs that blocks certain pathways in the cancer cells and thus achieving cell kill and cancer shrinkage. Most of the time, the intention is to shrink the cancer slow down the disease process and maintain quality of life. Please consult with your medical oncologist.

Sometimes: By ; large kidney cancer no longer confined to kidney is not good. Occasionally a kidney cancer patient may have a solitary bone metastasis which can be remove in toto. Such patients, with chemotherapy ; radiation, have a slight chance for a cure, but this is not the usual case. There is not much hope if kidney cancer has spread through flank or back ; into a rib. Best managed at a cancer center.
