3-4 days: The purpose of colonoscopy is to detect the presence of a malignant lesion, hopefully when asymptomatic. If a lesion is defined as a malignant growth, possibly circumscribing the bowel wall the colonoscopist would know clinically what the problem is even without the path report. Either way even if a polyp is seen and biopsied , permanent sections are required and can take up to 4 or 5 days.
