Treatment: if Risperidone was not efficacious (not working) there is little to loose with an abrupt discontinuation If Risperidone was efficacious (was working) but is being discontinued for other reasons then there is a potential for loss of benefit if it is discontinued prior to Aripiprazole providing benefit. there is no established discontinuation syndrome for risperidone.

Different ways: have been tried. There is no single right way to switch from one medication to another. The important thing to do is to talk to your psychiatrist. Did he/she ask you to do it in a particular way? If you received specific instructions, then you should follow it. If not, then go ahead and switch over like you described.
