Similar not same: Risperdal and Abilify (aripiprazole) are the same in that they are antipsychotic medications. There have different mechanisms of action regarding their effects in the central nervous system. They also have differing side effect risks.

NO: Risperdal and Abilify (aripiprazole) are both atypical antipsychotic medications, but they are not the same. There are many different types of antipsychotic medications, and they have different side effect profiles. All have some type of dopamine-blocking activity though. http://tinyurl.com/crhreu7.
