Hormones: It would depend on when in your cycle it happens. The first half is controlled by estrogen and the second half by progesterone. If there is an imbalance of the hormones you can get spotting. It is sometimes due to ovarian cysts which cause erratic production of progesterone. It can also be due to issues with your cervix like HPV. you should see your PCP for a physical and discuss it.
