Are the school fire safety program drills traumatic to kids?

4 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Rehearsal helps: Safety drills allow kids to learn safe methods of exiting the building.By doing so, the anarchy created by not knowing is removed & the kids are much more likely to respond to an urgent situation in a calm manner. When kids rehearse often, they many times exceed the adults in their ability to respond under pressure.

Fire safety programs: They can actually be fun. Sparky the fire dog (adult in costume) may show up. Often the kids receive small coloring books about fire safety. Children often feel a sense of accomplishment. It empowers children when they can impact their own safety.
