Likely not: Likely not. Probably just due to the trauma of repeated IV attempts. If it seems like it happens all the the time, discuss with your doctor.

Bruise after IV: Patients usually develop bruises after IV's and could be related to spillage from the punctured vein, or vein tear by the needle, or as reaction to the IV fluid or drug given through this access. Most of the times it will resolve with no problems. Local heat (warm pads) may help. If the skin turns dark (black) have it checked by your doctor.

Likely no problem: It is most likely that this bruise is deeper into the tissue than the others and will take a little longer to heal. Usually the middle portion of the bruise is red and then it changes color over time from red to purple to yellow then slowly back to skin colored. If it has red streaks coming from it or it is warm to touch that may be an issue that needs to be looked at by your doctor.
