A member asked:

Why would someone fail a reflex test during a neurologic examination?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many reasons: Reflexes can be increased or decreased and a change doesn't always mean there's a problem. An old injury or knee surgery will cause you to lose the knee reflex. Diabetics with nerve damage will also lose reflexes as will elderly folks. A stroke or spinal cord problem increases reflexes. Some people just have 'abnormally brisk' (increased) reflexes that have no known significance.
