Glomerular filtration & renal clearance, what is this?

Physiology topics: GFR is how much water with its solutes is filtered per minute in the kidney to be processed and partially excreted as urine. The estimaged GFR you'll get on your lab slip is an extremely crude, subscientific estimate. Renal clearnace is how volume of plasma is cleared of a particular component. You'll learn in physiology about these difficult concepts.

GFR: Glomerular filtration is is the amount of filtering that occurs in the glomeruli of the kidney. We use this number (usually an estimation based on creatinine, age, race, sex and albumin) to determine how well the kidneys are functioning. It tells us how much kidney function (or clearance) someone has.
