Necessary?: Glasses are used to clear up the vision. Despite what you may think you have (farsighted, nearsighted, etc.) if you can see clearly far and near, then why bother with eyeglasses or contacts.

Cuz you have: myopia and glasses alter the focal length of your lens in order to "fix" your problem... At micro distances (usually less than 4 inches from your eyes) your lens typically cannot focus well - same thing happens when you try to focus the camera on a small object inches from the lens -- and your natural optics are typically not any better than the camera. Though our shutter speed is way faster.
