It depends....: The standard drugs are valacyclovir (Valtrex®) or acyclovir (Zovirax® and generics), sometimes famciclovir (Famvir®). The need for suppressive treatment (to prevent outbreaks and reduce transmission risk) often depends on virus type: little need for most cases caused by HSV1, but usually a good idea for HSV2. See a doctor for professional advice, and testing for HSV type if not yet known.
